Desert Vista Park Improvement Project

The Town of Fountain Hills has commissioned a multi-million dollar project to enhance the Desert Vista Neighborhood Park and our many park patrons are already aware that this construction is well under way and proceeding very well. This project includes changes to the small/passive dog area and the large dog area of the park. The project is planned for completion around late summer to early Fall of 2008. When all the project activities for the park have been completed, the changes that park patrons will see in the off-leash dog park area include:

  • A new restroom, concession stand / storage building will be built just above the current small dog section, along Tower Drive

  • A second large dog park entrance will be added along Desert Vista Dr. To support this new entrance, 40 parking spaces will provided for head in parking along Desert Vista Dr. The current dual-use entrance on Tower Dr. will be designated for small / passive dogs only

  • Two new hard topped / cement floored Ramada's will be added to the large dog section and one to the small dog section. If the existing shade structures are still utilized, ADOG will try to retain and maintain them in the future

  • New drinking fountains and sidewalks

  • Grading will be accomplished in various park locations to help with the current drainage problems

  • A three-foot wall (visual barrier) will be built along the existing small / large dog chain link fence line. This wall is designed to serve as a seating wall and to reduce the barking that occurs between the large and small dogs. Many of us are unhappy with this, but to be good neighbors we must try to reduce the barking!

During this scheduled work the Parks & Recreation department will try to minimize the times the park will have to be closed. They will be installing temporary fencing and temporally moving both the large and small dog sections. These moves are required to allow the contractor to accomplish their work as efficiently as possible. It may also mean no water in the park for a period of time, but please try to give the town credit for doing their best to keep at least part of the park open for our dogs during this work. I’m sure the finished product will make it all worth our trials and tribulations.
